Unfortunately I did the same thing. I think you're definitely on the right track.

What is the difference between a Civ class and a more traditional History class?

There really is no difference. It's just what our school calls World History. The school I did my graduate studies at made a distinction between Western Civilization and World History, but this school just combines the two ideas. Basically I need to start at 1660 (though I actually start with the Reformation as background), and get as far as I can with World History. I usually get to the Cold War.

I voted for Frankenstein and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
