Moore is brilliant! While this wasn't my favourite of his books (that honour goes to Dirty Job), it was a fun read, full of Moore's characteristic wit. He takes a remotely interesting topic, in this case whale research, and surrounds it with kooky characters, crazy plots and brilliant sarcasm ( Read more... )

I had stacks of other books waiting to be read, but this book kept calling to me from the time I opened the envelope. What a powerful story. Gilda isn't a brilliant writer, but her memoir is incredibly real and powerful. She reveals her hopes and dreams, her fears and worries, her secrets and the person behind the face on the screen. This is another Sheriff Joanna Brady mystery. I enjoy this series, but I haven't been reading them in order, just going through them as I come across each book. This is one of the earlier books in the series, and it gave me some insight into how some of the relationships and some additional background that helps me understand the characters more ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed this book, though it did become somewhat predictable. I couldn't stop thinking about how I would have reacted if my parents had written a "how to" book about sex, including illustrations of themselves. I enjoyed this book. It wasn't a rushed read, like the mystery/thrillers I often pick up. It just kind of plodded along, much like the lives of the characters, taking its time and meandering to its final destination.
