I'm looking for a fic that used to be on AO3 but I think may have gotten deleted? It has Alpha!Sherlock and Omega!John, and in this 'verse every omega has a perfect mate. The story is an AU set in a prestigious boarding school called Aldwych. John is an Omega on suppressants who is passing as an Alpha. The backstory is that when he presented, he deliberately locked himself away, rather than searching for his Alpha, as he was supposed to do. He wanted an education, so fought against his nature.
All the other elements you mention seem to match up. For instance, I had book-marked this story with the 'plot hint' - "student jumps off science block" - so that's the suicide. PS: Is anyone else having trouble updating their LiveJournal account? I keep getting a message saying I need to reset my password, but the link to do so doesn't appear, despite repeated requests. I eventually had to log in using my facebook account. Most frustrating.
