How are U protecting the seeds from refrigerator cold "burn"?georgecomerOctober 17 2010, 23:50:11 UTC
I have attempted to chill-store some interesting seeds. None grew when planted. I plastic container packed the seeds. I did notice there was moister inside plus a smell of seed growth. But not sprouts. How do you avoid the refrigerator "burn"?

Hi George, How to do it depends on what seeds you have and what their needs are. Some seeds need more than just cold, they need it cold and moist, or cold plus scarification, or cold then warm then cold a second time, or cold and then light to germinate. Some don't need the cold at all. It is unfortunately possible for fungi to attack seeds being cold-stored in plastic, too.
There is some helpful info on some of this here and here for some plants.

Of course your fridge has seeds and dirt in it. What else would a gardener store in her fridge.
