More genealogical mess to fix?

So, in doing some more "researching" into my current genealogical mess, I also stumbled upon the issue of place names. In that a few years ago I standardized them using FTM (and there were a lot of errors in them at that time). But now I am wondering that might not have been the best thing to do. It seems to me, given that this is not even remotely a new issue, that geneology programs ought to offer you the option of recording both the period placename and the modern placename. I think they ought to make it possible to enter latlong coordinates, too; my brother and my son went out last weekend and took some GPS readings of a portion of my mother's property boundaries.

You would think so. In the current one I also have a descriptive line at the end where I could go in and mention something like "was called raby" or somesuch. Or put it into the notes.

In my brief survey, some do let you "pin" to a GPS location, some do not. For me, I standardized to put all the people in a place together -- it has helped me see connections between seemingly unrelated families.

The location issue is very low on my prioroty list right now. I am surveying all of my issues and trying to see what I need to work on and what tools/time I will need to do it. Cleaning up my census citations is the big one.
