A VERY Busy Month

May 21, 2010 23:12

Been quite a while since I've posted here.  It's been a very busy month.  Here's what's been happening in our little corner of the world.

First of all, Mike and I constructed a gravel walkway around the side of the house.  Originally, the pathway was very uneven, ugly and borderline dangerous.  So we needed to make it both safer and more attractive.

The walkway looks great! I've thought about putting in a solar unit so I'm very interested in how yours turns out.

The walkway DID turn out great. We probably should have done this as the very FIRST thing we did outdoors. It would have made sooooo many other things easier. Next we plan to install some indirect lighting out there....which should be pretty cool.

Will keep you posted on the solar unit. Right now, it's producing up to 5500 watts of juice when the sun is directly overhead. I LOVE seeing my meter run backwards. :-)

Welcome home, bud!

Wow, Regi! The walkway looks great and I'm totally impressed by the solar unit. Having that $0 electricity bill will be so worth every penny.

I love your garden as well. We planted a few of the hanging tomato planters this year too. I can't wait to see what comes of it.

Glad you like it, Dave. Can't wait for you guys to come out and see it in person sometime.

The hanging tomatoes took off rather slowly, but now they're catching up to the ones I planted in the ground. Once they begin to fruit, I'll post more pics. All told, we've got 8 different varieties of heirlooms.

is veggie garden porn! Ah, I dream of a veggie garden like that here in NY soon for my mother vvho already has one in Philly at my brother's.

VVill you be having all sorts of veggies? VVe had a small version of this type of garden in our tovvnhouse in Houston and I have to say that there's nothing more revvarding and makes you feel closer to nature than being able to pick veggies and herbs from your garden for a meal rather than run to the supermarket any time you feel like having some veggies or herbs.

Thanks for sharing this! Congrats :-.D

Yes, we plan on full-bore veggie gardening once we construct the raised beds. That will be our FIRST project once Mike's wrist recovers. Cucumbers, beans, eggplants, carrots, peppers, melons. And yes, it's as convenient as it is satisfying to have all this at your fingertips.
