But first, a non-update on the postal strike. It's still ongoing. I think we're on Day 19 or something like that. Quickly reaching the point where cards, even sent as soon as the strike ends, won't arrive on time.

I'll update if anything changes.

Re The Apocalypse Seven:

I did especially enjoy the addition of a blind character and her solution to one of their issues with roving bands of wolves.

It drives me crazy when an author uses that old trope of making wolves the bad guy. Too often they show them doing things that wolves don't do. Anyway, up until that line I was thinking of looking up the book.

The wolves are actually not really wolves, they're sort of a coyote/wolf hybrid. And they're not bad, they just don't know what humans are, and they hunt in packs and have dens that they don't necessarily want to share. FWIW (and sorry, small spoiler) the blind lady helps them. No wolves are harmed in the writing of this book. :)

You had a good week with lots of good books. I read a lot of Robert McCammon's stuff in high school, but I've never read that one. Will be interested to hear what you think. Also, I'm thrilled you enjoyed Sloan! Her family is nuts, but I love them. Her boss at the UIU is pretty great, too.

Good luck with the rest of your reads!

I have distinct memories of digging through bags of books that my aunt brought down (we were that family that shared all the books we bought, and we haunted garage sales and yard sales and flea markets for used books) and finding some McCammon's among them. My fave was They Thirst.

I know I read Baal way back then but don't remember it. Maybe when I start it I will.

That's amazing! I wish we'd done that, but my mom and I were the only real readers in the family.

I read on the NZPost website not to send anything to Canada until further notice (of course I kinda knew already as you'd said), so I'm a bit sad not to get your Christmas card off to you, but I figure we may just have to have a late Christmas exchange anyway!

Glad you're enjoying most of your reading!

Yes, we can either do it verrrrrrrrrrrrry late or you can just tuck that card away and save it for next year. The two parties are even farther apart in their talks than they were when they started!

Thank you. :)
