Fic Year in Review 2012

Jan 11, 2013 11:58

The best thing -- the thing that makes me happiest -- is writing. I am so pleased with my 2012 output. I ended up writing 67 stories this year (as well as 37 drabbles)! for a total of 127,783 words. Of those, there was only one 11K minibang fic ( Read more... )

First of all wooooooooooooooooo, dang. Can I say how impressed I am in general? I mean, I thought you were setting lofty goals when we wrote them down, ngl. But to post over 100k words? To write a fully formed piece every week 49 times in a row? And most of all: to go a year without being grumpy? I really don’t think there are many of us who can say we accomplished all that ( ... )

*nods* You are always the one I think of when I set new goals, because you are always the first to remind me to be realistic. I mean this in an absolutely GREAT way, you are the perfect sounding board for ideas. I mean, the photo a day thing is a perfect example. It is unrealistic to expect to be able to succeed at this. There will be some days when I just can't do it/forget/the camera won't work, etc. I... still decided to do it, heh. If that does happen, it'll just mean that I nearly succeed instead of getting that nice CHECK-mark at the beginning of 2014. I think that's the way I look at most goals, now. Setting them and coming close (and of course, being happy and non-grumpy) is better than setting them too low or not setting them at all ( ... )

Re: goals. YES I am in much agreement. Realism important. My photo-a-day thing has restrictions in my head that make it 'more' realistic. But in the end, the overall goal for literally everything I do is "be creative/don't-be-grumpy". That's what I'm ultimately aiming for.

BTW, we were talking about action plans the other day at work. Not spreadsheets though.

Oh wow, this is much writing.

After the end of Criminal Intent my writing muse got to sleep. I'm glad TWD could wake her again. I'm coming back, step by step, but I guess it won't be never again like in my first fanfiction writing years with much stories. But I like the current situation as well. The stories have higher quality and I'm patient, can wait to publish stuff.
Nevertheless, I would like to have more time for ff writing and a few more ideas would be cool as well.

I kind of couldn't believe it when I was compiling the list and it kept growing and growing throughout the year. tamingthemuse is SO great for me!

I'm glad TWD woke up your muse as well. I just find writing more satisfying than any other medium. And re: ideas -- that's why I love prompts! Just a simple word or phrase can spark something that I otherwise would possibly never have thought of, and certainly wouldn't have written down. Have you thought of joining a prompt community, maybe one with more relaxed time-frames, like one of the bingo comms?

YES!!! *fist pump*

Oh yes, I like to write for a prompt, they are also inspiring me.

Such a prompt community would be very alluring. But I know I will always need a beta to check the English and the rest and I now start to write down my PhD thesis. I assume there is less time the next months for other writing :o(

Ugh, it's always annoying when real life commitments get in the way of the fun stuff. But good luck on your PhD!

I am in awe and jealous and covetous and happy that you get grumpy if you don't write (because then you will). Is there a word for all that?

Awwww. YAY. Yes, I'm SO glad I finally saw the correlation between me getting irritable and bitchy and not writing! Look for lots more this year. :D
