So while yesterday was mostly spent reading and reflecting on the election, I'm still oddly unsettled with the outcome, and I think I have an idea why.
I might have voted for the McCain of 2000 if he had showed up. I had a talk with a coworker at lunch, where I basically summarized that McCain's campaign seemed to be trying to remind us of who he was 8 years ago, while trying to help us forget who he'd become in the meantime.
There is SO MUCH expectation right now, that there's no way Obama is going to live up to it all. There's no way to make everyone happy. He's going to have to spend at least those first two years trying to coerce things back to stability before we can even hope to see any real changes.
And I hear you on the centrist message - now that they have that kind of majority in both the House and Senate, I'm hoping he can keep Pelosi and friends in check, and keep the next 2/4/whatever years from becoming "now it's our turn." If there's anything the left can do, it's overreact and overcorrect.
