Book Review: The Ancient Egyptian Prayerbook

Today I'm reviewing "The Ancient Egyptian Prayerbook" by Tamara Siuda.

So I finally read it- the book to end all books when it comes to KO. I finally read the Prayerbook. And I must say that I don't see what the big deal is. The book is easy to read (took me less than a day), and covers a decent amount, but I don't really get what makes it so ( Read more... )

I have never and will never see this publication as the cornerstone of my faith. It's a nice collection of old rituals and prayers, which I personally like (I prefer ancient heka to my own for rituals, but I strictly speaking pray in my own words, if words are even an accurate description of the way in which I choose to talk to Them), but it isn't much more than that. I'm happy to have it in my bookcase to look through, but it is not a guide to being Kemetic, IMHO. Not even KO.

I do agree that the excerpts sometimes feel too disjointed to be meaningful, and I too wish the symbolical side of things were explained.

Meh, I've always seen "the Ancient Egyptian Prayer Book" as what the title states, a book full of prayers and hymns. I find it useful for reciting hymns at rituals, which is something I like to do, and I like having the Senut ritual in book form. Otherwise it's actually not very useful honestly.
