Love Scenes

I'm trying to stretch as a writer so I've been toying around with a romance novel, not because I want to be a Romance Writer but because there are some techniques those writers use that I want to become profficient with in my own work.  I love to read a good love story, I want to strengthen my own writing of them ( Read more... )

I like using a theme sometimes, with a few caveats. I think it adds an extra layer of mood and atmosphere to the scene, especially when it's something relevant to the characters. eg. the character likes CSI so the theme becomes a crime drama or something like that ( ... )

You make a really good point here wrt using poetry as a source of inspiration and using less common metaphors.

Ugh! hit button too soon.

I think it would be really easy to completely mangle this method though, either through overuse or just writing slavishly to the list of words you've gotten out for your theme. I'm curious to try it, though.

I think that, like anything (even taking a drink), it can be overdone. But, like any spice, in moderation and little amounts, it can add to the whole.
