We recently had three bookshelves custom-made for us! They are each about 4 feet high (3 shelves), and open on both sides. We have them set up in what would otherwise be our formal living room, and you can walk through the aisles like a library. It is the coolest thing ever. And not actually all that expensive, compared to what solid wood bookshelves cost in stores.
