My stepmother is Hawai'ian, and is very involved with the local halau, and is really working on reintegrating her heritage into her everyday life. The more I encounter both the language and the culture, the more delighted and curious I get.
Enough to get by in some conversations (I can discuss movies and similar things that I like, make plans with someone, describe things in somewhat basic terms, talk about my family and ask about someone else's, things like that)? Add Japanese and American Sign Language.
Just a little bit (counting, getting directions, shopping, introducing myself, and that's about it)? Add Greek, Spanish, and German.
