"Hello," he said, giving the girl a small smile. He didn't know what next to say because he wasn't sure who she was or what she wanted so he went with with a polite, "How are you?"

He had so much of it to do that he knew he'd have to pace himself, prioritize, make sure he didn't try to do it all in the first week.
"I am new," he said, nodding. "I just arrived on Saturday in time for the very large picnic."

Her arms were full with cans of Mountain Dew, bags of chips and pretzels, some candy, and a pizza balancing on one outstretched hand. "Hi Jonas!" she said through the mass of crinkling packets and went to set everything down on her bed.

Poor boy, pizza was almost exotic to him. He couldn't remember anything like this.
"That's all right," he told her once he'd gotten his mind focused back on her. "I don't really know what I like so it's not surprising that you don't either."
