Alaya and Damages

Thanks, guys. I'm feeling much calmer. Concerned, but more for other people. Including (very much) the writers out on strike. It's turned cold in NY, that can't be fun for the WGAe picketers. Maybe I'll go into the city and offer them hot chocolate to show my support.

Anyway. On to other pop culture matters.

First, did you know that utsusemia hasRead more... )

I'm glad you're feeling better, sweetie. I really wanted to comment on your previous entry, but... this month (and the next) are shaping up to be quite stressful (in a good way, except when we come to school, which is another matter altogether), and I'm behind on about half the things I'd like to be doing.

I'm glad to hear that your show has been renewed! I'm curious about the shows that HAVE been renewed, but aren't due to start filming for a while, though (Californication also falls into this group)... for now they're unaffected by the strike, but depending on how long it lasts, I really wonder how that will affect production.

I also saw utsusemia's news, which is just fantastic! Even if I didn't already love her writing ("Nightfall" is just incredible), a recommendation from you would put reading it pretty high on my list, what with how much I enjoyed Bobbie Faye's adventures. ;)

How have you been? I feel like we haven't talked in ages!

Sorry to hear you're so swamped, but yay that it's mostly good. I certainly know how that goes...

As for how the strike affects shows like Damages and Californication, well, pretty much the way you might expect. No production start date, no scripts written, everyone sitting tight waiting for the strike to end before moving forward. Since there's no definite schedule, there can't be any airdates planned. A bit nervewracking, but hey, at least the shows will move forward when the strike is over! Can't say that about every series currently on the air. There'll be a bunch of de facto cancellations, I'm guessing. (Me, I'm hoping Chuck sticks around. I find it extremely endearing.)

Just so you know: Racing the Dark is a lovely book, but it and Bobbie Faye couldn't be more different. BF is madcap, oversized action adventure, Alaya's book is lyrical coming of age fantasy. My taste runs the gamut. As long as it's well done, and both definitely are!

Yeah, that's what I figured. More of a wait-and-see basis, I guess. Which is, like you say, certainly better than being axed entirely. Though I still think the majority of network TV these days is crap and/or drivel, there are a few shows I'll be sad to see go. (And I still intend to watch both Chuck and Pushing Daisies at some point, but I just haven't drummed up the motivation yet.)

Oh, I'm sure Bobbie Faye isn't like much of anything else, lol. I just meant that I trust your recommendations. Though I'm generally rather leery of the fantasy genre, since it's utsusemia, I'll of course give it a try. :)

I'm glad that you're feeling better about the strike. I suggest going out to help some of the writers if you have the time. I know that many have enough food, but I think warm drinks are more than appreciative.

That's great news on utsusemia's novel. I'll have to check it out later.

The news on Damages if fantastic for your family! I hope it turns out to be a good two seasons (I still have to watch S1.)

I'm under the weather this week, but maybe I'll go next week... or, more likely, after Thanksgiving. They'll need more support then, anyway, as the newness of it flags.

I know from talking to them that the Damages producers have had these next two seasons mapped out before they even started shooting S1. So I have faith that the quality will stay steady.

I'm glad that you are feeling calmer and that is just excellent news about Damages. I'm so happy for you.

I have to check that book out next time I head out to the book store, thanks for the recommendation.

Yay for Damages! SO excited. I'm glad you're feeling calmer about the strike. I imagine this must be an incredibly stressful time for everyone involved.

And aaaaaaaaahhhhh! I need to go pick up utsusemia's novel and congratulate her. I've been meaning to since she posted and I just keep forgetting. Thanks for the reminder!

I know! I'm happy about Damages for obvious personal reasons, but this other part of me is simply, "Yay! More story!" I feel like this past season was almost set-up, y'know? Getting Ellen's backstory into place. And now she's got angst and grit and is a kind of double agent, and it seems like it's going to ROCK. Especially since the producers actually conceived of a three-season arc from the get-go (unlike some other showrunners I could name).

Oh, utsusemia! I absolutely loved, loved, loved Nightfall and Basket Case. And the one she didn't finish, grrrr! (Now that novel is out, she should! LOL). Thank you for pointing the book out. You already know I like Bobby Fay, so even if I hadn't seen any of utsusemia's writing, I'd check it out on the strength of your recommendation. :)

And congratulations on the pick up. In this industry, even without a strike, everything is so uncertain. It's great when there's some security in sight. :)

P.S. OMG! I just ran a spell check on my reply, and, naturally, it didn't recognize the word utsusemia. Guess what it offered as a substitute: autism!

She keeps saying she'll finish Bright, but I have my doubts... (And I think she's kind of busy with her next, um, five? projects (more like three, but anyway, kind of a lot on her writing plate).)

Indeed! Great to have peace of mind for once.
