I came home after working all day, for my own money, to find my lovely and talented spouse cooking me dinner. He shared with me a story of having run into the letter carrier today, who asked when the big day was and, on being told it had been in August, said "Oh! She's kept her name then!"

Hah, thank you! I've been thinking all week about putting together a sequence of "Why we already don't have traditional marriage, and why this is a good thing" slides for one of the assorted collect-electronic-statements-against-Prop-8 sites, and I'd only gotten half of those.

I am still trying to figure out how I can usefully protest, since Saturday afternoon isn't so good for me.

Oddly, a Greek colleague was mentioning the fact that his parents were married twice because the Greek government didn't have civil weddings, and the Catholic and Orthodox churches (one parent from each) had issues with each other (though I think he said the orthodox church would recognize the Catholic wedding).

Didn't see any of the Prop 8 rally discussion 'til after it happened. Alas.
