Worksafe? - Probably.
Notes: I did a Tarot reading based on Buffy's questions to Tara at the end of "Dead Things" (Why do I let Spike do those things to me? etc.), and the plan was I'd then make a Spuffy version of each card in the spread. I only managed to make two pieces of artwork, ( Read more... )

So what's the meaning of the Five of Cups? Your image seems to be full of symbolism. Light and dark, life and death. Is Buffy making a choice here to turn away from the dark and into the light? Why are the cups on the light side upside down? Are they falling? I find it all very intriguing!

For the Queen of Wands I love that you turned the kitty into a black panther. With a leash firmly held by the Queen, of course! Even though the style is simple, it's still a very alluring image.

Thank you for commenting! You are very kind. <3 "Simple" is one way to put it -- I had such vivid mental images of all five "cards" and struggled to execute the ideas; I may have lost the struggle. :D

Here's the Five of Cups from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck:

Thank you for the extensive explanation! Very interesting So where I interpreted Buffy as turning her back on the dark, what she's really doing is looking back at the (heavenly) light. But the dark actually is where the --more or less-- full cups are for her. By the way, don't you think that the man on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card looks a lot like Spike?

Yes. :) I suppose it would have been easier to see it that way if I'd used a Buffy cap where only her head is turned instead of her whole body.

OMG, you're absolutely right. I don't know how I didn't notice it! :))

Love this! Am a little wigged that you picked this to make when I literally have a note that I made the same day I posted those Willow/Tara icons saying "create Buffy tarot deck" though lol XD I've been so lax in doing actual readings for myself lately, I love the idea of doing one for Buffy <3

Thank you very much! :) Glad you enjoyed the concept.

I would love a Buffy Tarot deck. I think someone made one a while ago, but the artwork for that was very basic? Ah, here it is. Anyway, basically everything I've ever seen people do with Tarot in this fandom has been super cool, and there's definitely lots of space for more coolness!! :)

These are really interesting. I know nothing about the Tarot, so thank you for educating me. I'd love to see a full Buffy Tarot, with explanations

Tarot cards have always intrigued me. I have a friend who used to read them and she was quite good at it. I guess the secret is to know what each of the cards mean (without having to look them up). Your post has got me again wondering about tarot carda.

:) That's nice! Yeah, I think a reading can only work if someone knows the meanings.

I love the light and the dark in the picture, especially how Buffy faces the sunlight and Spike although he is in the dark has her back. And I suppose the cups that are standing between him and Buffy are the ones that are still full and they bridge the distance between him and Buffy?

It's really beautiful!

Aww, thank you! ^^ Glad you enjoyed. I like your interpretation! Yes, those are the "full" cups, so to speak, though I now realize I didn't actually make them full. They're more like... being offered, and they could be full. :D
