"nothing but smut" LOL I have no regrets here. I have heard rumor that occasionally people write and read fics with plot and just wanted to throw that expectation out the window first thing.

One thing I think is clear from as far back as season 2 and reinforced pretty much constantly is that Spike is a generous lover, that he takes pleasure in giving pleasure and tenderness, which is one of the things I enjoy about him as a character. And yes, I totally agree that the honest reality that Spuffy inevitably find is way more romantic than all of the things we think of as romantic when we're young and naive. I think it is one reason I love writing them -- they are messy and complicated, but the roots just go so deep.

There is something I always find charming about s4 Spike falling for Buffy despite himself, the layers of denial and the final surrender. I just keep coming back to it.
