Open air film festival! Last night my friends saw the last ten minutes of Tosca. Unfortunately for them, their train to Rome left at 7pm so they're missing this evening's performance, Giselle. This one of the very few ballets I've actually seen before, but I've never seen it on a jumbotron ( Read more... )

Forewarning on the Sistine Chapel: You walk through assorted art-filled rooms for like 45 minutes before you actually get to the Sistine Chapel.

My brother and I kinda felt like we could have sufficiently done Rome in 2 days -- one for the Coloseo and nearby ruins and one for the Vatican area -- so I don't have any particular recommendations. We didn't really go to any art museums in Rome besides the Vatican Museums, but if I were organizing a trip just for myself I would have sought out art museums. Oh, and make sure you take advantage of the gelaterias :)

Must, must, must go to the Villa Borghese to see the Berninis. I would rather go there than the Sistine Chapel, personally. If it's sunny, you might also seek out his Teresa in Ecstasy (featured in "Life Serial"!) in Santa Maria della Vittoria. Rome is really Bernini's city. I like the Ara Pacis near the Spanish Steps for classical ruins. Also near the Spanish Steps there's a restaurant called Al 34 which is excellent and reasonably priced.

Also, make it cold outside so you can have the hot chocolate. It's like very warm cake batter.

It is (or should be) against the law to leave Rome without eating way too much gelato. I had some at the Piazza Navona, which is worth visiting even for non-food reasons.

My parents were impressed with the Pantheon but I never got a chance to see it.

Ciao bella!
