There's also a lot of neuropathic pain associated with leprosy, as the nerves get damaged, like with diabetics. And they are using thalidomide to treat it lately. I just did an education module on it, so I'm all rich with the knowledge now, for five minutes. It's more than I ever expected to know about a disease I'm never going to see anyone treated for.

Sorry to spam you with facts you don't need. I'm really excited that I got to use the information for something.

No apologies necessary! I love tidbits of info like that.

You probably would have been appalled by the leprosy in this movie, like the boy was. They had a community that had been abandoned after a "massive outbreak" of leprosy there in the mid-19th century. For reasons I'm still unsure about, those affected got on a ship and tried to settle in Oregon. Now they are ghost lepers haunting the descendents of those who betrayed them.

Sorry, I thought it was interesting! Leprosy is not like what The Simpsons portrays at all! I thought we should all know, so we can be prepared for Matt Groening's lies in the future.
