It's a holiday and you give presents to people you know.

A holiday, I see.

All right, when is Christmas?

It's an entire season, but the exact day is on the 25th of December.

Thankyou, you've been very helpful. I'm not really used to giving gifts without political motive, but I suppose we'll see.

It's a holidy. Tends to result in bankruptcy.

Then why do people persist in celebrating it?

If you give gifts then you get gifts. Everyone'll say it's about giving, but they only give because it means they'll get.

That seems like sound reasoning, I suppose.

Christmas is the magical time of year when a man in a furry suit breaks into your house to steal your milk and other treats while leaving things like socks and shiny new firetrucks behind.

Ostensibly it's about spending time with your loved ones and for the west, a baby on a farm, but really, everyone's in it for the presents.

It seems to be a mid-winter celebration.

[ lmfao wtf, Arthur, where do you come from . . . ]

It is an annual celebration, dedicated to the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

It's Christian? I've never heard of it.

You are familiar with Christianity, but not with the celebration of its universal savior?

I have sat a sort of Mass for that purpose in early spring, though my father mostly sees Christianity as a Roman affectation.
