Uhm. Well. Soul Society is, er...[how to explain an afterlife society without sounding insane.]

An alternate dimension of sorts. I work there. But the device I usually use to stay in contact with them is...not working, unfortunately.

Yeah. It's pretty cool, but it seems like this dimension, wherever it is, is pretty far removed from where I was to not even be able to reach the Soul Society.

Don't worry about it, really! If you're new too, I can't expect you to know much more than me! But I'll be happy with whatever you can tell me. Start with your name, maybe?

I'm sorry, but I doubt you'd be able to contact this Soul Society of yours while here. Even if there was some way to, the Mist would probably interfere with it.

I'm sorry, a senkaimon is a gate we shinigami use to travel between the Soul Society and the human world.

Other things besides us can get in through them, though, so we usually need permission to open one. Besides, uh, I don't think there is a connection between this world and mine--my Soul Pager should have worked otherwise.

No, not quite. I mean, our physiology is pretty similar according to Captain Unohana, but our bodies are made of spirit particles--reshi.

Actually, I'm kinda surprised everyone here can hear and see me. Only exceptionally spiritually aware humans can see people like me. It's kinda for the best that way, considering our job. If everyone could see hollows there would be far more unrest in the human world.

And the Soul Society...well, it has two parts. The part called the Seireitei is where shinigami like me live and work. But uh...you know, shinigami can be female too.

I don't think this is another afterlife, though...

Where I'm from, when you die in the Soul Society, your soul is recycled into the human world. And those that die in the human world pass on into the Soul Society. [Or go to hell, but.] It's always been that way.

Besides, I don't think I died back home...
