The convention thing is really problematic and has been for years. I think maybe it's just starting to hit the media fen and they don't have any methods in place for dealing with it. Most anime conventions have pretty strict no touching rules in the con guidelines after the glomping crap got out of control. I know the more adult cons (like yaoi con) still sometimes feel like you're walking into a clothed orgy of fangirls though.

I'm not much of a congoer myself, but the comicons I've been to have been pretty good. There have been some heartening efforts to curtail this kind of bullshit in recent years. It's crazy that just saying there's a problem is too much for some people.
