Taiji Legacy Tournament

Yesterday, Jia taught us a new ending for our 42 Sword form. It's actually from Wudang sword, his most advanced sword set. And it's GORGEOUS. A lot of Bagua in it, snaking around in smooth curves.

He's only taught it to us in case one of us gets into the Grand Champion's tournament, but I'm glad to finally be learning the form.

training, bagua, tournament, taiji

Which 42 sword form? Oh, oh, can I see?

Shifu had talked about teaching us a Wudang jian form. I should see if I can convince her to teach it to me when I'm back in town sometime...

There are about three different versions of the Wudang form, that all have the same name -- at least that's what I've heard on the internet forums.

"42 Sword"'s complete name is "42-Step Contemporary Taiji Jian". For the tournament, we will cut the ending off of 42 and then add in the ending for Wudang Jian.

I've heard that the 42 fist and sword forms have been modified in recent years, but Jia left China before those changes. He did study with one of the people on the committee to create the forms, though. For better or worse (depending on your opinion of Contemporary Taiji) we have the original 42 forms.

I'm pretty sure it's the same one -- one of my favorite jian forms, contemporary or not ;-) And it had been one of Hong Shifu's signature forms when she was still competing.

I don't know as much about the Wudang jian form, other than that it's gorgeous and I want to learn it. (And as you said, rather bagua like in that twisty sort of way...)

Have you ever seen a wudang shan snake form?
