I think the reason why you felt weird was because you aren't used to the traditions and whatnot. Did you grow up Catholic? I was under the impression you went to the same church as Andy... no... you guys met at school not church. I, too, would like to know the point of the ashes.

1) everything he wears is purple because its lent... that's the color assigned to let u know its a "special" time/event
2) the cookies are the ostia... that's the body of christ
3) the wine is for you
4) yes u can have some... but only a sip
5) no they don't ask for your age
6) you don't need permission... all you need is to have done your first communion
7) you could eat... but just no red meat!!!
8) the other guy is the helper... he did help the father to put ashes didn't he
9) you can't be taller because your genetic make-up doesn't allow it... well actually you could be but it involves the breaking of your bones and metal tubes inserted in... ouch
