So, Oprah's having a bunch of celebrities in their 50s-70s on to show "how to age brilliantly." And so far it's "Oh, have you had hot flashes? No? Do you feel differently? No?" Where are their medical stats? What are their livers like, a great digestive system defines aging brilliantly for me. Where are their health rituals, life-fulfilling ( Read more... )

God, I hate Oprah. I want to grease her and Tommy Lasorda up with bacon drippings and throw them in a pit full of ravenous hyenas.

I'll be 47 next month. I couldn't afford plastic surgery even if I wanted it, and I don't. Being brilliant for me is embracing every aspect of my womanhood, wrinkles, hot flashes, aging body and all. I want to rock the old lady-ness, just like I rocked the hell out of my youth and my motherhood. ;oD It's being happy with yourself as-is.

If that's what Saint Oprah of the Housewives is preaching as "brilliant," she's an even bigger fraud than I thought before.

(Henry Rollins is a beautiful middle-aged man, isn't he? Grey hair, wrinkles, and all.)

My grandmother aged brilliantly. She was content to act and dress her age, because, I'm convinced, she knew that the advantages of being older lay in that you no longer had to care what anyone else thought. She remained active and independent until the week before she died of a completely sudden stroke. She was adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom visited her often. She didn't take crap from anyone, but she didn't give anyone crap unless they deserved it. She taught me so many things, and gave me so much love and time, and even when she was 83 and wrinkled and stooped, she was such a beautiful woman.

I don't need a set of bionic boobs in order to rock - it's just unnatural. Bleck!!!

Hey, it may be unnatural, but it makes a much more convenient storage space than a purse ;)
