ONE-TRACK MIND

“He really does have a communal flat in there, doesn’t he?” Sasuke mused aloud. If I didn’t know better, I would think that my perfectly one-track-minded character had finally acquired a sense of humour.

He was lounging in an arm-chair directly opposite me. If he could open his eyes, I would surely be in for another infamous avenger glare of doom, but Sasuke had recently received his eye transplants and had to give himself as much rest as possible. I wasn’t sure if I should feel flattered or threatened by his choice of a resting place: my apartment.

Reassured that he could not see me, I continued outlining some possibilities for the future chapters by compiling a list of objects and persons that could also come in handy inside Naruto’s head. How about a couple of Dragon Balls? A homage to the source of my inspiration. A random naked chick? A tribute to my dearest brother, of course. Naruto’s long lost twin sister wielding the ultimate power to defeat the Kyuubi and Madara at once? Or better yet, Naruto’s naked long lost sister! I bet Seishi would love that. The Kyuubi’s wife and cubs? Hey, why not? Latin American soap gets away with that; why can’t I? Or, how about a railway station to solve spiritual problems? It worked for the Harry Potter woman, didn’t it?

“I can hear you thinking,” Sasuke said morosely.

I blinked. “No, you can’t.”

“What’s Itachi of all people doing in that moron’s head?”

“You’re not supposed to know about that,” I reprimanded him. (Hell, knowing Itachi, even I was not supposed to know that.)

“Are my parents in there?”

I stared at him. Truth be told, I hadn’t even considered that idea.

“No,” I said, patiently. “It’s Naruto’s head-.”

“Are they in my head then?”

(It’s amazing how scary one can look even with his eyes shut.)

“It’s not fair, you know,” Sasuke said in a steel-cold voice. “The whole world seems to be having a private party inside Naruto, yet you deny me access even though you know full well that I need to get there.”

I clapped my hand against my forehead and gritted my teeth, trying hard to choke down laughter.

“There’s a back door, you know,” I very nearly blurted out - and then I wished I hadn’t because even temporarily blind avengers could be very-very dangerous.
