Title: Empathy, Inc. Characters: House, Wilson, some Cuddy and OCs Rating: PG Words: 5K Summary: Cuddy hires a company that provides 'empathy training' to doctors. House reacts. Set in an earlier season.
You are so good at all their voices - this could have been an episode (and certainly a better one than some of them were). House makes valid points, but 'bedside manner' probably does help a lot in mitigating how patients believe they were treated, regardless of the outcome. I'd be curious to know what you learned from your interview, though I certainly don't expect to hijack your comments page to do it.
(When I first saw your post, I got excited that perhaps we were getting an update on 'Tiny House'. But this was so much fun and equally good!)
Well, during the interview I asked her a couple of the questions House asks here (but in a nice way). Her study looked at "soft outcomes" -- patients give higher ratings to doctors who undergo empathy training -- but it's not clear if that actually ends up affecting their behavior or health. (I personally would rather see a polite, respectful doctor, because I'd rather be around respectful people in general.)
This was as delicious as that chocolate chunk brownie that Wilson didn't eat. Great dialogue as usual, with just enough edge to keep it interesting. I can just picture Wilson and House up in the back row (excuse me, second back row - love Wilson's careful selection of the spot!) with Wilson turning red and sinking lower in his seat, but the hidden side of him laughing along with House. You have to wonder what Cuddy was expecting House's presence would bring (maybe exactly what it did!). I wonder if Schwartz will be brave enough to return for the role-playing part of the course.
Too many great lines to quote but of course the last exchange is perfect :) So happy to see another fic from you :)

“You haven’t seen him naked yet?” he asked incredulously.
Of course House has, heh heh.
I also really like the line about the collective eye roll, House does have empathy sometimes and the fact that he would notice that proves it.
This was an awesome fic all the way round.

I cannot imagine House sitting still for empathy training. I was on their side until you came up with the acronym. OMG!
