a faggot works for you

Being gay in America is not easy. Of course, not being a white heterosexual male is not easy, either. This leads to me coming out to one of my coworkers tonight ( Read more... )

I've had it with people being nosy and "knowing why I am gay." I've had people ask me if I was gay because I was molested. I've never been molested. I've had people tell me I am gay because I hate women. I don't hate women. I've had people tell me I am gay because I have a small dick. Size is subjective, but I have not had any complaints.

My only wish is that straight people would just accept the fact that there are people who are different from them just because they are different, not because there is some underlying factor that makes them different. Since they believe there is factor that "makes people gay" they are incredibly intrusive into my personal aspects of my life trying to figure out why I like dick over pussy. Hence, the silly questions from the previous paragraph. [One aspect of this difference, I will tell them, is biology. Then they get confrontational. I don't know why.]

I still wonder how the dynamic will change at Gamestop.~~Nick

I started at EBGames/Gamestop a few weeks ago. I sort-of don't like it.

People become less ignorant because they choose to open their minds and hearts to change, not because they work with someone who is "different" from them. Since most people are not open to change, it looks like I will have to hold my bosses and co-workers at arms length.~~Nick

Having never held a real job (Ive been riding the higher education wagon for 6 years now), I don't know how it would feel. All I can tell you is to keep your chin up and look at all of them in the eyes ALWAYS.

OWN IT!!! and be yourself.

and by "real job" I mean a job in the retail, corporate, or services areas. Academia has never felt like a real job to me, even when Ive been working 40+h/week the last 3 years...

and, btw, I'm very proud of you for standing up for yourself, me, and every other queer in the world. Look at it as a little grain of sand on its way to be a beautiful beach.

What is it with all the posts to my update? Are you trolling me? I hope you are. I am such an attention-whore.

It takes huge amounts of intestinal fortitude to stand up for yourself. I just got/get sick of ignorance and people saying stuff like my co-worker, and then recanting because there is the realization they work with someone who belongs to a sexual minority.

Honestly, I really don't care if anyone "hates faggots." It is their god-given right to hate on anyone they see fit. It is my god-given right to not trust straight people. I would rather hear it from the horse's mouth than hear it from behind my back. At least I know who my enemies are.~~Nick

Yes, I'm trolling you...

What exactly does trolling means? Help, says the non native speaker...

I guess I'm so obviously gay that I have never been in that wagon either (meaning someone saying they hate fags in front of me). Also I'm so obviously out, as the sticker in my bench that reads "Out at Work" which is situated righ below that pic of me in drag and by the 2006 NYC Firefighters Calendar... Mr April says hi!

I understand the "not trusting straight people" part. I'm afraid of straight, white people in big crowds :) as in last time I was in Denver there was a Beer convention, so when I came out of a seminar late one day and the streets were full of white gringos buzzed on free beer samples I took a cab the 7 blocks to my hotel, I was so afraid. Maybe not so much afraid as... no, I was afraid.

"Trolling," similar to "ghosting," is when you stalk someone thru their blog by reading all of their updates and develop an unnatural connection because you think you "know them." Sometimes a troller will reply to those posts.

"Ghosting" is when you go into a chat room and only watch what people say so you can form an unnatural connection to someone you never met.

When I worked for Waldenbooks (soon to become Borders Express) I remember the Firefighters calendar. The only pic I liked was the cover. Hmph.~~Nick
