Flash mob carol

I have a real weakness for flash mob musical surprises. Via mckitterick comes Darth Vader directing Carol of the Bells..

Another odd, and somewhat dark holiday related story told by Azdak here about the "Schlager," which word in German means hit or beat, but signifies to Germans a certain type of extremely treacly, sentimental songs. One of the longest enduring ( Read more... )

Quite amusing and enjoyable. Merry Christmas to all, and Happy Hanukkah as well.
Speaking of carols, which is your favorite? While I don't know many (you know, since I'm Jewish and all), I think my favorite is The Huron Carol, especially as preformed by Emmanuel Shall Come To Thee. Not only is the melody and singing simply enchanting, the history and meaning behind the words is also fascinating.

My favorite hymn of all time is "Let all mortal flesh keep silence"--here is a somewhat wimpy version with the words--I adore the last two verses--and here is a choir singing it the way it should be sung, but unfortunately somewhat diffuse.

The best recording I've ever heard is that made by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the early sixties. It's now on iTunes (finally!) but the old monaural recording (before stereo) so it still isn't what it could be.

I LOVE flash mobs and one of the things I want to do someday is either be in one or be an audience of one.

Loved that Carol of the Bells vid - wish so much that I could get caught in the middle of a flash mob!

Merry Christmas, and warm wishes to you and all your family! *hugs*

That reminded me of one of my homeschool band concerts, where the beginning band was playing some of the music from Star Wars. The conductor announced that a 'guest conductor' would be conducting that piece. He walked out, came back in one of those Darth Vader masks that amplify your voice, and conducted the music--though he had to stop laughing first. It was hilarious!
