Legend of the Seeker

2008 has been a very good year for me when it comes to childhood obsessions. :D

In January, DragonLance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight (my fave fantasy novel when I was in 7th grade) was made into an animated movie!* Then over the summer, the remake of Final Fantasy IV ( my fave video game ever!) was released for the Nintendo DS.

*And by "fave" I ( Read more... )

childhood obsessions, tv, nostalgia, book nostalgia

*GASP* The DragonLance movie was already released?? Geez, I'm so behind. How was it?

Argh, I didn't know this was on the CW, (the forum I dl-ed the first two episodes from had the pre-air episodes and no listing of which channel it would air on and the files were crappy and small and so I didn't finish watching them ;-;) so I'm a tad disappointed I couldn't catch it on TV. Never read the books but if it's in the same vein as DragonLance, I look forward to my next trip to the library! I'm so happy, this year there are a lot of fantasy shows on TV~~ (Have you seen Merlin?)

Yep, it was straight to DVD. The animation could be better, but for what it is, I thought it was really well done & enjoyable!

I think the CW might be replaying Legend of the Seeker this week. Wednesday, maybe?

I haven't seen Merlin--that looks promising! Wikipedia says it's coming to the US in January 2009, YAY! Thanks for the rec! I love me some Arthurian myth. :D

I love when you find stuff again and it's like "HOLY CRAP THIS FULFILLS EVERY DREAM EVER." :D I might have to check out the TV show because the characters are cute and my favorite part is always the slow progression towards making-out, lol.

My YA book obsession (I was twelve, it got me into fandom and the internet and everything else) was Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith. First of all, how awesome is that for a pen name, come on? XD And the book was so spectacularly spellbinding (forgive the pun) that I pretty much murdered my paperback in my rabid rereads. My book automatically flips open to page 438 now, the "good" page as I have always and will always call it (when the slow burn finally bursts into the making-out). Haha, I let a friend borrow it recently and she was like "THIS IS AMAZING" so I bought her a copy for her birthday. If that's not dedication, I don't know what is.

I think the author has written more in that universe, but my hottie-with-a-body in that book got his own prequel and the cover art is enough to make me run away

Oh nooo, don't let bad cover art chase you away! Just rip the cover off before you read it, and ceremonially destroy it. If you use enough fire, your fave character's hotness should be restored!

That *is* true dedication! :D I think I ended up giving away my extra copies of Wizard's First Rule, too. With my favorite scene starred or underlined or something obnoxious like that. ;D

I watched the trailer and am going to attempt to add this to my Tivo. Yay for shirtlessness! Yay for making out!

Also, you did not call me this weekend! Which is totally fair, since I also did not call you. But we should do the phone thing soon. :)

It is pretty much all you could ask for in a fantasy series. Oh--along with cool costumes and fight scenes. The hero does a lot of leaping through the air, as if he happened to jump off a ladder in the forest while swinging his sword. Which is only the best move ever! :D

Yes! I should call you today once I have gone totally hoarse from reading my FPPs aloud. ^.^

Yes! Call! I was just getting ready to call you, but will refrain and not steal the credit for the call this time... :)

I was surprised that the DragonLance movie was not completely atrocious! Although I think Dade "Raistlin" Bell enjoyed it more than I did.

My nostalgia moment is of course, also the FF IV game. I need to get back to that. I was kind of bummed they got rid of the way that characters who left your party and came back gained the experience you gain in-between. Growl. It sure is adorable, though.

Ahahaha, Dade "Raistlin" Bell has good taste in movies. :D

Do they come back with new and improved items, at least? One of my tricks for making money in the original game was to unequip characters right before they left my party, so I could sell all their stuff. ^.^ I have heard this version is a lot harder. Which I suppose I will find out when I am pwned by it, after I cough up the money for a DS.

I think they do come back with better items, but that is SMALL CONSOLATION compared to my totally cheesy level-up-Cecil-in-Zot strategy that is now shot to hell. *pout*

First of all, the tugging-on-chest-hair thing cracked me up. *g*

But I'm really here to say: Dragons of Autumn Twilight and the others in that first trilogy were MY FAVOURITE EVAH BOOKS when I was a teen. Omg, I loved them. I wanted to marry Tanis and have his half-elven babies.

I cried when ***** died.

I laughed at Tasselhoff's antics (sp?)

Raistlin and Caramon were so cool!! (Again, sp? I'm not looking any of this up.)

I can't believe I haven't read these books in so long! And this is the second time they've come up in a couple of weeks. Richelle Mead loves them too - we geeked about them over email just recently. *g* And, omg, there's an animated movie?? *dies of the squee*

Awww, your half-elven babies would have been adorable! ;D

I was so obsessed with that series. I wrote my own Dragonlance "novels" (unfinished of course--but I always made sure to do the cover art! Heh), made a hoopak so I could make a Tasslehoff movie, and even bought some weird Dragonlance compilation book that included recipes from the Inn of the Last Home.

Richelle Mead has just become *more* awesome, in my mind--if that's even possible. ♥

There's also a comic book adaptation of the Chronicles trilogy ... I think they're up to Dragons of Spring Dawning? I don't like the art style, so I haven't read it. But it might be worth checking out. ^.^

Ooh... You wrote Dragonlance novels! *g* And omg (again)! I had that book with the recipes in it... Well, I think it was my brother's but we shared everything back then.

*goes to check out comic book*
