Alright I've finally seen Halfway. It's the directorial debut of Eriko Kitagawa (who was screenwriter for some very highly rated romance dramas such as Long Vacation, Beautiful Life and Orange Days), and was written by both herself and Shunji Iwai.

Sure. It seems like "Boku no hatsukoi.." is an adaptation from a popular manga.

you were right when you thought it was ad libbed by the actors. the director said that most of the movie had been improvised by the actors. i thought that was kinda cool, but it also turns me off b/c i had a feeling it might not flow very well. i love the fact that Shunji Iwai was a part of this and i like pretty much the whole cast except for kitano kii. thanks for the review! i can't wait for subs~

So they did ad-lib? No wonder. Actually I thought the conversations seemed very natural. But if you don't like Kitano Kii maybe you're not going to enjoy this much.. because she is in it 90% of the time and sometimes went overboard with the improvisations and came off a bit mental :P

Shunji Iwai's taking so long to make another movie :(

You should try it. It's a movie you dont have to spend as much time as watching a drama.

Sounds like something I would very much enjoy! =) I like down-to-earth themes. I need to finish up 'Ashita no Watashi no Tsukurikata' first though. xD I recently got distracted by 'KIDS ~Kizuna' (Tamaki Hiroshi, Koike Teppei) and watched that instead... =PP Wonder if you watched that too?

Ahhh, so many good things, so little time...

Lol. Take your time to watch them all. The theme here is much lighter than 'Ashita no Watashi no Tsukurikata' but I liked it a lot too.

Actually I've never heard of KIDS ~Kizuna. I'll try to look for it. Thanks^^

KIDS is kinda dark and personally I think the apparent morals are questionable =PP but I was attracted to the supernatural element and the (tiny!) slashy potential ahahaha. I watched the Chinese-subbed version from tudou (http://www.tudou.com/playlist/id/4348467/) if you're interested.
