Aww, this is sweet. And I think that's a great birthday gift for Dean this year.

(Now, of course, just to be the crazy timeline person that I am, I feel the need to point out that technically Dean is 33 in the show this spring, because he was born in 1979 and the show is a year ahead of us. But, hey, who the heck cares? The writers don't seem to :P)

I really enjoyed this. It is understated and sweet.

You know, I could not figure out his age! I did my best laying out it thusly: S1=26, S2=27, etc.

You are right, of course, and the year jump screws it all up, making him older. But then I wasn't positive and it was just a comment fic and I kinda just said, 'screw it' :D

So, you were already one year off because he was 26 at the beginning of S1, and would be turning 27 midway through... The trick with birthdays is to know the year of birth, then you just subtract it from the current year. So, in this case, 2012-1979=33 (then, you know if it's before his birthday, he's 32, and if it's after he's 33.) I'm so horrible at remember how old people are, that I use this trick with my siblings sometimes.

But yeah, this is purely academic. I really don't think it matters, and it seems the actual Supernatural writers/prop-department can't remember that there was year-jump. :P

Well, if we wanted to nitpick, we could also point out that Dean wasn't in Hell for his birthday, or for Christmas as I read in several other stories. He was in Hell from May to September. so if one wanted to stretch it and say, it wasn't exactly 4 months, one could guess, he went down around Sammy's birthday, but the newspaper he looked at for his rising showed Sept. 18th 2008.

And I don't really remember seeing any exact dates on anything concerning Sammy's time in the cage. So no idea, when THAT was supposed to be.

But in favor of just enjoying this sweet, wonderful story, I prefer to ignore these details. After all, it's Dean's birthday today. Really enjoyed this story. A real brotherly hug is exactly what I needed today.
