As stated by the above commenter, fantastic character insight. You know, I'm not sure I've ever seen a fic that's had Wesley trying to find reasons, other than good intentions, in himself for what he did. They ususally just have him start out with firmly thinking he'd believed it was the right thing. I think the attempts to find something wrong with his reasonings are perfect for his characterization.
And I wish I was better at giving fic inspiration... I've got things I'm always dying to see fic of, but their not really prompty so much as "I want". ;)
Thank you. Your review was so lovely that I'm blushing.
I know what you mean; Wesley is the kind of character that finds fault easily within himself. He can ignore other's faults or forgive them much easier than his own. It's part of what makes the fans love him.
If you'd like you can mention one of those "I wants" It might give me some inspiration for another short fanfiction.
Ooh, thanks! Well, I’m really into the idea of exploring platonic relationships that weren't really focused on in the show. I guess maybe because you have to try a little harder to find parallels in characterization or ways of bonding between them. (Examples: Tara and Buffy; Gunn and Cordy post-S2; or something completely random, like Spike and Wesley)
For example, I’m a little obsessed with Angel and Gunn interaction ever since I read the After the Fall comics, which basically took their relationship, a previously “unfocused on” one on the show, and turned it into something fascinating, which is something fic often does for me.
Also, you've definitely got a great grasp on Wesley, so if you come up with anything more for him I'd love to read it.
I think I'll try the Spike and Wesley idea. They were such great characters. They both made huge transformations during the series, but they never got enough screentime together to form any sort of bond.
I'd really like to explore that. I'll keep the other ideas in mind, too.
Wesley was a chracter that constantly pulled on my heartstrings. He is one of the most well developed characters I've ever seen on TV. All those changes he goes through, yet there is a reason for all of them.
