Side Story Translation - 運命が出会う夜 (part 2)

Mar 22, 2010 02:58

They turned after hearing a shout, and then saw a young man forcing his way in with about ten men.

The man exposed a total of nine dragon tattoos on his naked upper body and from his arms to his back in the middle of the winter. How to describe it? Even though the artistic tattoos looked almost vivid, but he clearly looked like a gangster.

… Kan Hishou? Can it be…

“You’re Kan Hishou, the 'Kumonryuu’?”

“Isn’t that the prodigal from the Ryuukasou of the Haku Province?”

“Are you here to invade our territory? You’ve got guts! All right! Everyone, charge! ”

The situation immediately developed into a melee.

While Yuushun was speechless, someone had kicked his cane away. He did not know where it flew to.

The gamblers began to press onward like buffalos along with loud cries. The situation was totally out of control.

“Aaaaah! The authorities are here!”

Someone had suddenly shouted. The surroundings became more of a riot.

At that moment, someone carried Yuushun over the shoulder and began to cross effortlessly in the battlefield of the gangs.

There were also various kinds of things flying in the air. Yuushun was hit directly in the head brutally by a pot lid that came out of nowhere on the spot.

“Ugh!”

Why did he get involved into an inhumane war and hit by a pot lid, when he was only here to participate in the civil exam? Yuushun pressed his head unsteadily, then swayed and fainted just like this.

“… Hey.”

After feeling someone tugging his hair in hesitance, Yuushun opened his eyes drowsily. He turned and realized he was in a small ally somewhere.

His head was still hurting. Who in the world threw that lid? He was safe, but that did not mean there was no problem at all. Perhaps it was the so called “desperation”.

Kou Reishin was standing in front of Yuushun and looking down on him. Even though he had an irritated expression, he did not leave for some reason. He looked as if he wanted to say something but did not know how to bring it up. Yuushun only had Kou Reishin to talk to… but…

“Ah! Found them! Thank goodness. You two disappeared so suddenly, I was so worried.”

It was then the masked man found Yuushun and Reishin in the small alley. He ran over to them with ease. Not soon after, Kan Hishou loitered by and tagged along as well. Why are those three unhurt?

“Yo. Thanks a bunch. That riot helped me get rid my men since someone had nagged me about not causing any unnecessary commotion. The name’s Kan Hishou.”

Just as he was about to ask Yuushun’s name, Reishin interrupted him as if he was the one who had priority.

“You there. What’s your name?”

His arrogant tone made Hishou angry right away.

“Hey you! It’s a basic manner to mention your own name before asking for someone’s name!”

“How the heck am I supposed to know?”

“Oh? You’ve got guts, stinking brat! I see you’ve got some fighting skills, but don’t think too highly of yourself, snotty kid! Respect your aniki!”

“There’s no need for you to tell me. I already do anyways.”

It seemed like the two of them did not intend to let Yuushun have time to speak up. Because their education environments were totally opposite of each other since childhood, they had completely different interpretations of the word “aniki”. How should he mediate between these two?

“Can you be… the first place in the Shi provincial exam - Tei Yuushun-sama?”

The masked man asked hesitantly. Even though he tried not to stare at Yuushun’s legs, but he had heard the rumors about the first place of the Shi Province leaning on a cane - just like him, whose rumor concerning his beauty was widespread.

“Yes. My name is Tei Yuushun.”

For some reason, Kou Reishin’s mood seemed to become worse. He looked as if he just had an important privilege taken away from him. How incomprehensible.

On the contrary, the eyes of the masked man shined with brilliance.

“I knew it! I had always thought about meeting you. My name is…”

Yuushun suddenly closed his mouth and lowered his head for some reason. He then sneezed.

The masked man hesitated for a second, and then took down the fabric that was wrapped around his head. Hishou and Reishin widened their eyes at the face revealed under the fabric.

He handed the fabric in his hands over to Yuushun and turned his face away as if he did not want anyone to see it.

“Ahahahaha! What’s with that face?”

“Please leave if you want to laugh. You can laugh in a place where no one knows!”

No one had the right to laugh at the person who was sincerely worried about Yuushun. After hearing this cold voice, the masked man - Kou Houju - turned to face Yuushun in surprise. Hishou stopped laughing as well at this.

“… Sorry. My bad. A man’s worth's not determined by his face.”

It was also the first time Yuushun had heard this kind of expression. Houju felt confused from his reaction. He encountered it for the first time so far.

================
Notes:
"O no nai Ryuu" - literally mean 'A dragon without tail'. Apparently it's some kind of card game.
"Kumonryuu" - Kan Hishou's nickname. Literally mean "Nine tattooed dragon".
"Ryuukasou" - I'm not sure what the Japanese romaji for this word is. It means something like the "Dragon household" (Literally).
"Aniki" - literally mean 'elder brother'. In this case, it can be referring to Reishin's elder brother - Shouka. Or the term can be used by gang members to refer to their leader.
