Chapter 3: Raising storm

Days passed one by one and when Aiba realized he was with Ohno and Nino for a week already. He helped out in the café in the mornings and sometimes in the afternoon too, still he had a lot of time to do as he wishes; walk around in the town or just go down to the beach… People were nice to him wherever he went. It seemed everyone believed he was Ohno’s brother and since everybody loved Ohno, they were nice to him too…

Today Ohno let him skip the afternoon shift and since it was such a nice day, Aiba decided to go to the beach and enjoy the sun. Still something was bugging him since he woke up this morning and it held him back from fully enjoying the sunny day. He hesitated a bit then pulled out his mobile from his pocket. The phone was turned off ever since he got on the train a week ago. So far he didn’t really think about it but this morning he had an uneasy feeling as he woke up. Should he… should he call his father? At least to tell him he was alright… He must be worried by his mysterious disappearance. And he was his father… his only family…
Finally he gathered enough courage to turn it back on. Dozens of voice mails and text messages were waiting for him to read them. They all came from his father or Jun… Somehow it scared him and became too afraid to read any of them; so just sat there in the sand and stared at the screen blankly…
“Oh, look… the stray pet-boy…” a voice sounded waking up Aiba from his thoughts.
He looked up quickly with scared, wide eyes. It was Sho.
Aiba saw him in the café every morning. He tried to be nice and polite with him cause it seemed he was good friends with Ohno and Nino; especially with Nino. But so far Sho always ignored his existence; he didn’t even look at him, let alone talk to him!
“I… oh… ehm… ko…konnichiwa…” Aiba managed to stutter out and felt his cheeks heat up blushing so ducked his head shyly to hide it.
Sho snorted mockingly and lit up a cigarette and inhaled the smoke deeply.
“You’re so fucked up…” he said.
“What?” Aiba’s eyes widened more - if that’s possible - and looked back up at Sho.
“You heard me well…” Sho puffed out the smoke and looked at the boy at his feet coldly.
Aiba opened his mouth to shot back something but just can’t find words to retort - though so far it was no problem to talk back to Nino when he teased him - but now as if his mind would’ve gone blank.
“Hidoii…” Aiba whispered; he felt tears brimming in his eyes yet he couldn’t turn his face away from Sho.
Then the phone in Aiba’s hand started to ring as the two kept staring at each other. Finally Sho moved and dropped the stub in the sand.
“You’re really pathetic; kid…” he said looking into Aiba’s kicked puppy eyes with emotionless face. “Won’t you answer that?” he asked then nodding toward the ringing phone in the boy’s hand.
Aiba jerked and looked down at his mobile, realizing just now that it was ringing. But when he saw the caller ID instead of answering it, he canceled the call and turned it off completely. Sho said nothing at this just kept studying the younger boy.
“Hey, Ma-chan!” Nino shout came from the road above the beach.
Aiba and Sho both turned toward the voice.
“We need your help! Hurry!” the smaller man shouted to him.
“Hai!” Aiba called back.
Nino remained standing there for a few seconds trying to guess what could’ve going on between those two but then shrugged and hurried back to the café what was unexpectedly busy that afternoon.
“I… have to go now…” Aiba mumbled getting up and didn’t now why he felt he has to ask Sho’s permission to leave.
But of course Sho didn’t say a word at this, instead lit up another cigarette and looked at Aiba with an uninterested face. Still Aiba waited a few heartbeats for him to say something, but when Sho didn’t speak up, Aiba turned on his heels and ran back to the café…

“I’m sorry, sir, but he hang up without answering the call. Maybe the caller ID… His phone’s turned off again…” the man said.
“That stupid boy!” Aiba’s father snapped angrily.
Jun who sat silently in the armchair by the window looked at Aiba’s father first then at the other man who should’ve track down Aiba’s location till now.
“Did you manage to track his location?” he asked the man.
“Not really” the other said bowing as an apology. “All we have that he’s on Kyushu Island, in Miyazaki or Kumamoto prefectures maybe…”
“Good enough, I’ll go there and find him” Jun said firmly and got up.
“Don’t be silly, Jun-kun! You don’t have to be bothered with that. I’ll just inform the police; they’ll gather and take back that stupid son of mine…” the man waved his hand.
“Well, if you excuse me, sir, but I don’t think that would be a good idea” Jun said looking at the man. “He might run away again if the police go after him; and he’s just a stupid kid, not a criminal, don’t need to be that harsh… Let me go after him instead and I’ll take him back. After all, he’s my fiancé, and he’s running away splurged my reputation. I have to take him back…” Jun said firmly though in his voice there was more affronted vanity than honest worry for the younger boy.
“Then do as you wish, Jun-kun. I won’t stop you if you want to spend your time with chasing that boy around the country…” Aiba’s father agreed with him finally. “Inform me as soon as you found him” he added.
“As you wish… Now, if you excuse me… I have to pack…” Jun bowed shortly to the older man then left the room…

Aiba ran back to the café and stormed straight to the counter where Ohno was busy preparing the orders and seem as he could use some help. But Aiba just curled up in a ball in the corner behind the counter, hugging his knees close to his chest and shutting his eyes tightly.
Ohno looked down at him worried.
“Ma-chan? What’s wrong?” he asked kneeling down in front of him.
But Aiba just shook his head to signal he doesn’t want to talk about it. How should he tell it to Ohno when he wasn’t sure himself what was wrong? He just felt his chest tightens; his heart aches and wanted to cry so badly like never before in his entire life… But why…? Was… was it because of what Sho said…?
Ohno sighed when Aiba kept silent.
“It’s okay, Ma-chan… Anything it is, it’ll be alright…” he said reassuring and caressed Aiba’s hair softly. “Take your time then come, help us when you feel like it…” he added then got up and returned to his work.
Nino came to the counter with a couple of dirty cups on a tray.
“Where’s Ma-chan? I think I saw him storming in…” Nino asked his boyfriend.
Ohno looked at him then pointed at the corner. Nino tiptoed to see the curled up boy whose shoulders shook slightly by the held back crying.
“What happened?” Nino asked whispering and frowned confused.
Ohno just shrugged and started to prepare another cup of coffee.
“Oh, shit!” Nino cursed suddenly.
Ohno looked up at his boyfriend questioning.
“I hope it’s not because of aniki… I saw the together on the beach just now… That idiot! It’s better not because of him or… I told him to be nice…” Nino grumbled then grabbed the tray and went to the kitchen with it…

Maybe half an hour later Aiba found enough courage and will-power to leave his hiding place and taking his apron stepped next to Ohno.
“Nii-san… What should I help?” he asked silently.
Ohno looked at him still worried. Aiba’s face was as if he would be on the edge of crying. ‘Maybe it’s better if he doesn’t have to deal with customers now...’ Ohno thought feeling pity for the boy.
“Just go to the kitchen and do the dishes…” he said finally and smiled at him.
“Okay…” Aiba said obediently and felt grateful to Ohno not forcing him to serve the customers now as he usually did.
A few hours later Nino come with another tray of dirty cups and told to him it was the last turn, all the customers were gone. Aiba just nodded and continued his work.
When he finished finally with everything out in the kitchen he headed back to ask what else he should do but as he wanted to push the kitchen’s door open, he heard Nino’s voice.
“Aniki! What are you doing here?”
Aiba gasped surprised hearing this. Sho never come to the café in the evening. Aiba slightly pushed the door opened to see what was going on out there…

chapter 4

A/N: sorry for the cliffhenger... *hides* and I guess you didn't expect Sho and Aiba's first conversation like this either...
anyway, I don't know what do you think, but I had so much fun writing those one-sided conversations, especially between Nino and Oh-chan... I don't know but I can totally imagine this going like it between them XD
