Roomba that is. All it does is go in circles and since I have no circular rooms that's a bit of a problem.

You must know some EEs, right? Maybe they can replace the sensor for you.

Check around on the interwebs. This is apparently fairly common (mine is having similar issues and is also out of warranty) and there are ways of fixing it for relatively cheap. It does require a small bit of electronics knowledge and some soldering iirc but it didn't seem to horrible when I was reading about it.
