Plants are so freaking cool.

I love them. And I'm not surprised by this:

Back in 2007, Canadian researchers discovered that a common seashore plant, called a sea rocket, can recognize its siblings - plants grown from seeds from the same plant, or mother. They saw that when siblings are grown next to each other in the soil, they "play nice" and don't send out more roots to ( Read more... )

Oh WOW that is cool!

Are you a vegan usually then? I didn't know that

Isn't that neato about the plants? Nature is awesome.

Heh, I could never be a vegan with the amount of dairy I consume. In fact I'd say the bulk of my protein comes from yogurt. Well, probably equal between yogurt and soy products. :) And I use eggs when I bake. I'm not even strictly a vegetarian, because I do occasionally eat fish, and every once in awhile I'll eat wild game if I know the person who killed it. But when I'm cooking for myself, which is most of the time, my diet is very vegetarian.

Oh that makes sense. It's a very smart way of eating, not that I could do it though.

It works pretty well for me! It's just hard to know what to call myself. When talking to non-vegetarians, the easiest thing to say is that I'm a veggie, because then (maybe) they won't expect me to eat meat, but strict vegetarians would be irate if I applied their label to myself.

My kids don't play nice with each other. Can I tell them that plants are nicer than they are?

Hot dogs. MMMMMMMMMMMM. The more burnter, the better.

Bwah! I'd say that goes for most human siblings!

I never liked hot dogs much even when I was eating meat... except for the ones cooked over the fire. Those do still tempt me a little. Not that you would probably ever try this, but NEVER roast a soy dog over the fire. It's disgusting!

Wow, what a cool plant discovery! I wonder what first made the researchers decide this was a possibility? So cool.

Really! It does seem pretty far out even as a subject of research. Very cool.

That's amazing. I wish I had a greener thumb (or I could remember to water them), because I love plants. I have a strong and happy bamboo plant; Mr. Sun is surprised I haven't killed it yet. Maybe I should fill the house with bamboo?
