Who wants to strike a deal with the devil?

Sometimes it feels really good to take control of my own life on all the levels. Yet I know that sometimes it's perfectly fine to take a risk and dive into the unknow. If you take a risk while feeling fear, regardless of the outcome, you have shown courage, and that shows strength of character.

What if you take a risk without feeling fear? What if you take a risk because you get carried away? What if you take a calculated risk because you think it's worth it? Is it not a risk then?

I'm not talking about whether the risk was a good or bad idea, or led to something good or bad. I'm saying that striving to something better, and being brave enough to strive toward it even in the face of the unknown, even when it scares you and you would rather run away and hide in your own comfort zone, tells you something about a person. It may be a subtle incalculable quality, but it does tell you something about that person, about his character, about the strength of his resolve. Maybe you take a risk and it crashes over your head and you think you've made a mess of things, but then it turns out that someone was watching, and someone saw how hard it was for you to take that risk, and they respect you for your effort, and all of a sudden you've made a new connection, a new friend, a new lover. You can't always calculate all the outcomes of all your actions, but the fact that you are willing to take a risk with the hope of bettering yourself, bettering your life, can be a good thing.
