The Search -- Within the Woods in the Park tempervale_npc December 6 2010, 01:45:49 UTC
The forest was growing thicker and denser, more wild even though it was well within the city walls, just beyond the reaches of the park. This was where they'd been told to look, so they didn't have much choice.

The clues were many. In the wild places. Far from sight of the city buildings. In the arms of a long-dead guardian. Surrounded by its living brethren.

And of course, it was guarded. And quite thoroughly so.

The monsters, the usual inhabitants of these wooded acres, were lurking everywhere. Maybe it was noticeable that in certain directions, their numbers seemed to grow more. Could that be significant?

Paul kept himself away from those monsters, really, that sword attached to his hand came in handy, but not against monsters twice his size. He had lost his darling wife Anna, God knew where she wandered off to. It felt a bit empty.

It would be lucky if he would encounter a human being, but he wondered if he wanted to be found right now. Even a psychopatic killer had his clear moments...

So he waited, hidden inside a tree. Maybe he would be found, maybe something would attack him, it was all up to luck.

[OOC: If anyone wants to play a character or a monster, they're free to find Paul sitting there C: ]

Aqua ran through the forest, in full armor, and searched the treetops. Temper had said that it wasn't untended, so she was expecting to run into a group of monsters when she got close enough to it. With her Keyblade in hand, Aqua felt perfectly confident. After all, she'd fought alone for a long time, only teaming up with Terra and Ven once, and teaming up with Mickey against Vanitas.

Not a happy memory. Aqua started to run faster, she needed to find that mirror. The talisman. So focused on her task was she, that she didn't sense Paul until several moments after passing the tree he was hiding in. Digging her boots into the dirt and skidded to a stop.

Paul stood up a bit, face peeking out above the bushes. That was definitely no monster but it was armored and well, swords could not cleave through armor.
But just like every sight of every human it tickled his fancy, there would be a prospect of killing.

"Ah...hey," he started, waving as if he's just a friendly passerby. "You're lost too?"

Finding the Talisman & The Battle For It -- Deep in the Woods by a Tall Dead Tree tempervale_npc December 6 2010, 01:47:26 UTC
Here the monsters were swarming, flashes of movement between the thick stands of trees. It was here, after all, that their prize was kept. And they would guard it -- many at the direction of the spirits who had taken control of them. Others simply the normal beasts and creatures who preyed on the errant traveler who followed their possessed kins.

It was the moonlight that would betray the talisman's location. The silver surface of the mirror caught the pale white light as it swung in the wind, a small and sudden sparkle that glinted from nearly twenty feet overhead in the bare, skeletal branches of an arching and long-dead oak tree. Surely it was stable enough to climb -- Tim had managed to place it up that high. Or maybe the ones who found it would be lucky enough to have someone magically-abled with them to spell it down.

((OOC: Lots of monsters around! Feel free to play them yourself, or if you'd prefer just leave an OOC note in your response requesting and I'll try to play a couple scary monsters at you.))

[Goro had followed one of the monsters into the deeper part of the woods, deciding that if she was going to fight, it was going to be one of the monsters that looked like it was worth taking down. She slowed down to catch her breath, and looked around for the monster, not seeing it.]

(ooc- Requesting you play the monster for this!)

ITT I AM NOT TEMPER I AM A SCARY MONSTER tempervale_npc December 6 2010, 03:49:00 UTC
[Oh the monster was still around. Yes, it was. Still around, but it wasn't being followed anymore. Instead, it was following the silly little human. But this was best. It was meant to be predator, and she was meant to be prey. It was simply how the flow of the world worked.

It emerged from the shadow of the trees soundless, a large hulking form, vaguely feline in some aspects, lupine in others. Teeth gleamed in a grimace-like snarl and it opened its mouth to cry out, roaring, before lunging towards Goro.]

[Goro turned towards the cry, glaring at the monster as it lunged. But obviously glaring wouldn't do anything, so she did what came naturallly, she dove out of the way, landing in a rough roll before skidding to a stop. Scrambling to her feet, Goro looked at the monster, then around. What could she use for a weapon? Patting herself down and finding nothing, she cursed under her breath.]

The Ritual -- The Rooftop Where the Spell Was First Cast tempervale_npc December 6 2010, 01:47:55 UTC
The rooftop -- scorched already by the intensity of the intial spell -- had been found by Conan and Janice days ago. Now it was an imporant spot again. Most important was the mirror -- the size of a large hand-mirror, the talisman was engraved in etched lettering on both sides.

On one side the simple lines read:

Oh moonlight harsh and cold and bright
Gathered from the dark of night
We steal from you the light of day
To illumin and open the way.

The reverse was engraved as well.

From brightness stolen from the sky
To light the way for those who died
Shatter and back to repose
We send you now, the way we close.

Well, one of them was the right one. Someone would figure it out.

"So this is where it all started..."

Maciel looked down at the spot marked from the opening ritual. That such a spell could ever be cast, and for no good purpose... He shook his head. Feeling a light tug at the end of his robes, he glanced at Naata who had come up beside him, forcing a smile at the dark dragonling.

"I'll be all right," he assured. He needed to be if he was going to be of any use here. Turning, he looked to the rest of the kids who stood behind him. They'd all wanted to come despite his reluctance, and even now Maciel still felt anxious about having them there. He wasn't sure how the ritual would work, after all. None of them had ever gone through anything like this, back home. "....all right everyone. Stay close, and do as I tell you. Kaata."

The little blond-haired dragonling nodded, putting on his best brave face. He went over to Maciel, glancing at Naata briefly, the latter offering a nod.

From brightness stolen from the sky...     Thinking on those words, Maciel looked ( ... )

Lavi wasn't entirely sure how much use he would be here. There'd been so much talk of magic -- innate magic -- and that wasn't anything that the bookman boasted. But he had been paying attention -- to the communicators and all the buzz over them in the past few days. If nothing else, he wanted to be here to see how it went. But he hoped he'd be able to help if anything didn't go as planned.

And then there was the chance that the men who'd led them on this chase had lied and they weren't going to let them go about this without interfering, well, he could help with that.

His green gaze shifted towards Maciel and the little figures around him. He stepped over, curious. "Think it's going to work? It sounded pretty simple, but..." Yeah, magic. Aside from Innocence, it wasn't in his repertoire.

They all looked over at the redhead as he came over. Truthfully having the presence of others there with them was something that brought a shared relief to Maciel and the kids. Even Naata appreciated the fact that they wouldn't be the only ones here to attempt this, and especially if the burden would be lessened from his dragon sorcerer.

"It does sound simple, doesn't it...? I... Well I hope it works! We don't have any other options, and I don't like to think that so much trouble was gone through for something that wouldn't work...." Maciel smiled weakly, stooping down to pick up Kaata, standing again as he glanced over at the mirror. "Kaata's confirmed that the mirror is what was involved the first day that that strange flash reflected in the sky. This is the place it had been used."

He looked at Lavi. "So all we have to do is send everything back to where it came from."
