Brrr, that does sound cold. I'm sorry to hear that your Christmas hasn't been living up to the schmaltz levels of the advertising industry, and hope that what's left of it picks up. Also, have a happy New Year when it comes round.

When I called my parents this morning to wish them a Merry Christmas, they told me it was -7 Fahrenheit. I was suddenly not at all upset we weren't spending Christmas there.

I am sorry your Christmas has been stressful, and I hope this week picks up so that 2013 ends on a high note.

Also, I love how calmly contemptuous Padme looks of Caspian's clearly dubious lightsaber skillz.

Padme would slice Caspian to ribbons. It reminded me of the Mother's Day short I posted here in which rthstewart (RS) argued with the Just King (JK) about the ending of By Royal Decree:

RS: Be a nice young man now, would you? Go away and leave me alone. Show the boys some sword moves with the stakes they pulled up around my peonies. They’ll like that. There are some shields in the toy bin, too.

JK: I looked in there earlier. I found some headless action figures. It was a bit disturbing.

RS: The plastic dinosaurs ate Caspian's head, I think. Or Darth Vader cut it off.

JK: What if they all attack me with the dart guns, phasers, six shooters, hockey sticks, and lightsabers? Not quite my era, so to speak.

RS: Consider it a cross over.

JK: What if the Twilight reading tart comes over?

RS: There’s a dull paring knife next to the microwave. Cut out her liver and feed it to the fish in the pond.

Ow, that's very much not nice. We had very hot days last week, but it eased off for Christmas Day, which was pleasant. Sorry it's kind-of late, but the kid was in hospital for 36 hours on Sunday-Monday with what the medicos initially thought was appendicitis, but turned out to be a very, very savage gastro. Needless to say, we were in disarray for a few days, and Christmas Day was quiet with simple food (which does have some things to recommend it, by the sounds of it). So pleased the dolls were the cause of some fun.

Sorry it was a rough one, but best wishes from Down Under anyway. Hope new year is a bit more fun.

I am sorry about the heat and the illness. UGH. SO SORRY. Someone else on my F list was dealing with severe GI too. The only good thing about those is that they usually are over quickly.

And my gosh those stuffed toys were a huge hit with my nephews and Santa. They were carrying Chewie and Artoo around all weekend. It was very cute seeing Santa playing with Han Solo and my niece LOVED Princess Leia.

I really like Prince Caspian and Padme at odds, and am thinking through what on earth could be the backstory. :)
And yeah, Christmas can sometimes come with sniping attached and associated stress. Sorry your place got hit by that this year. May it be calm and kindness (and gentleness! and going easy) saturating everything for the rest of the season. :)

See above excerpt from the Great Mother's Day Debate. At least Caspian found his head again and Darth Vader is Padme's father after all.
