So I've had quite a few people discuss with me how they enjoy the idea of significant characters (namely themselves) becoming Gym Leaders. And just about everyone has a favorite type these days as well, if not two or more. On a separate and still to be segway'd topic, Jay and I tried Shoddy Battle for the first time earlier with our theme teams ( Read more... )

This is crazy complex. Just saying.

Also: **Water, *Ghost, Psychic, Dark, and Ground. In that order, same annotations as yours.

Which part is complex? I know I'll probably miss it cause it's all clear in my head. If there's something that I can better explain I will try.

Just, the whole thing. Like, the amount of detail and effort, to me, is nuts.

But, then again, I still look at Pokemon as a fun game about catching weird critters, and don't bother with 90% of the theorycraft behind competitive play.

So the Metagame in general? I assure you it's not too complicated, the weirdest part is probably the lack of hold items outside of berries. Choosing diverse move sets is reasonable and learning how to use a whole team to perform strategies is one of the fun parts of competitive battling. Compared to some of the real tournies that smogon and other such groups hold this is really basic, since it is tied to using a team based around types. Whereas real theorycrafters get all kinds of crazy with their builds and teams.

Can we not use just berries and just go with normal items?

Not everyone is on the same level competitively - I would rather stick to something simple for items to try to equalize the playing field.

Better items would be part of the second bracket (7th gym - elite four.) It's more important think about how their team can work together first, before they worry about held items and the overwhelming power some of those hold when used properly. They also need experience in the ring before they see how pvp battles work out.

For some people who play Battle Tower/Frontier they may be acquainted enough with the items, but we also have people volunteering that have not reached end game in a gen IV game yet. It's possible that the final round of the first tournament will allow better items but not the beginning.

Looks like so far, the first four comments anyway, everyone has responded with unique types - no over lap. Interesting.
