I have a sound file I'd like to embed on LJ. Any idea how I could do that? (I'd really rather not go to the trouble of doing a phone post again; that was annoying.)
Back to interesting women! I'd just like to state that a favorite female character isn't necessarily one I find to be, oh, a good role model. Or a moral person.
Had to get that out of the way before talking about Veronica Mars.
Veronica is my favorite character on the show, but I cringed sometimes at her actions. From what we saw, a "good" detective didn't always make ethical choices. Of course, she was sometimes (but not always) working for the greater good. Still not a justification, though. In the show's favor, her choices weren't always presented as wise.
Of course, the show itself was at times problematic as well.
Ahem. Anyway!
"Nobody likes a blonde in a hamster ball."
Mouthy, know-it-all, defiant, risk-taking Veronica made sure to keep score in life--and she stayed ahead. She never met a grudge she didn't embrace.
Never watched the show? Think of the title character as
Sam Spade: a blonde teenaged female Sam Spade who wears hoodies and sometimes pulls her hair in adorable pigtails. And whose "tarnished idealism" has gone beyond tarnish and is currently rusting in a junkheap somewhere.
Veronica knows well the weapons in her arsenal. She's very smart. She knows she's cute. And what she can't do for herself, she'll persuade (or "persuade") someone else to do for her.
She's also the most distrusting lead character I can recall on a show. Is that a bug or a feature? Heh.
Okay, so my piano recital is done. Off to work on Yuletide fic! Here's to hoping I can get the next 1000 words done by tomorrow night so I can upload it and send it off to beta-readers.
