Summary: Spring 1994. When a silver Lexus pulls up to the curb sixteen-year-old Jensen thinks it’s just another job, thinks he’ll crawl out of the backseat with someone’s taste in his mouth, a wad of bills in his hands and another memory he doesn’t want. He thinks he’ll return to his silent and trusting Jared with someone else’s scent on his skin and tomorrow’s meal in his pocket. It’s just a job, just another job…
Reccer's notes: This was just a wonderful piece with abused mute!Jared and sixteen year old Jensen. I cried through half of it. The characterization of both the boys rang so true, tragically so. Jensen's fierce protectiveness, Jared, so smart, but so broken. And him dressing up like Ariel in Logan's sweats and Sonya's tank and jewelry so innocent, so childlike. It was just a masterfully balanced mix of horror and innocence. Riveting. And I am so grateful for the happy ending.
[Short excerpt]Jensen’s fingers twitched where they rested on the curve of Jared’s spine, just above the waistband of a pair of green sweats. Logan’s sweatpants: His jogging pants, ugly as sin but a nice brilliant emerald in colour. In the hand Jared hadn’t wrapped around Jensen’s arm he held the plastic Sebastian wind-up toy Sonya had brought home earlier that day as a peace offering.
“Jay?”
Jared raised his head and smiled sleepily at Jensen.
“Are you dressed up like Ariel?”
Jared nodded.
“Oh my god.”
