*squeeee* I can honestly say that I think last night's Robin Hood was the best of this series so far...
So many things to say!
1) Guy said the occasion for the party was the King's birthday when Marian asked him. Aside from this being a lie, it shows that we're exactly a year after their engagement party in 1x08 (Tattoo? What Tattoo?). It's nice to know this, because I thought the timescale might have been shorter (because I assumed the reprisals against Marian's father, with the hosue burning and everything, were an immediate reaction to his disloyalty to the Sheriff).
2) Aw! Guy was so sweet with Marian in this one. I knew he still had real feelings for her. It's a shame he ruined it by obeying the Sheriff in the end, because I think Marian was genuinely warming to him for a minute there.
3) But it was much more sexy seeing the Sheriff getting so close to Guy, wasn't it? OK, so maybe this is all my fantasy... But it was rather sweet seeing the Sheriff use persuasion rather than threats to get Guy to do what he wanted. They know they want each other really ;)
4) Still on the subject of Guy, he can't stop getting his kit off now, can he? Not that I'm complaining. There was something slightly modern about the way he took his top off though. And he completely looked like a tousled-haired biker when he put the other top on without doing it up. Still not complaining though!
5) Danis Lawson was great, wasn't he? Ooh, so deliciously evil! Well, only because Edward had stolen the woman he loved, of course. It was good to see such wonderful acting talent in a guest role in the show.
6) Robin and Marian were very sweet too, weren't they? Especially the bit where he pulled her hairpin out. Awww.
7) I *loved* Will's crafty weapon-instruments idea - that's just typical Will. Poor John though with his bells!
8) And it was very funny when Much nearly wounded John with one of his darts. Brilliant comic timing yet again.
9) Speaking of Much, I have more fuel for the Treat Much Right Campaign (now with its own LJ community -
treatmuchright!). The way everyone treated him at the end! People say "Shut up, Much!" far too often. I know it looked at the end that he expected it of them - almost as if, since they don't give him any other kind of attention, he goes looking for their scorn as a substitute. Poor Much. Why can't they just be nice to him?
10) And it was *so damn sweet* when Much ran along the castle corridors breathlessly declaring, "If he dies, I die!" Aww, poor Much. When is Robin going to repay his affection?
11) It's such a shame to see Allan all bitter. Though I sort of like the way he's following Guy round like a lost puppy - it's as if he needs an authority figure after being with Robin so long.
12) It's also nice to see Guy with his own henchman!
13) The bit with Robin and Allan fighting made me laugh though - it looked a bit like a scene from Gladiators (does anyone remember that?)!
14) As Robin was fighting, was Marian giving him a signal? It looked like she was. Was she telling him that his men were there, or had he already realised that? I couldn't quite work out what that look between them was, and what she was doing with her hand.
15) Hang on, let's go back to the middle, which was very dark and exciting. I loved Robin's resolution to die to save the King. Reckless, but very him. His letter to Marian, and the way they read it over scenes of him looking all determined, was very atmospheric. I almost cried.
16) And when Robin 'killed' all the black knights *and* Winchester *and* the Sheriff and Guy, I realised something wasn't right and it must be a trick, but it was still a bit shocking. Also shocking to see Robin intending to be so bloodthirsty.
17) I think that's all I can think to say about this episode. But next week's looks good. And yay, Tony Slattery! It's wonderful that Robin Hood has attracted so many great guest actors.
