I know he was trying to comfort me by pointing out that there are a lot of jobs out there, especially for recent college graduates, but I mean, did he even read the rest of it??

My parents are trying to think of "an appropriate graduation gift". My dad called and asked me if wanted to do a writer's workshop this summer and, if so, which one. So the only ones I really found so far are grub street and Tin House. I think some deadlines have already passed.
