Yes, we needed some conversation like this. Those hats received too little comment. But I must be really dense. What is the joke between Will and Djaq?

It's less of a joke between Djaq and Will (who just seemed most likely to share some joke at this point), than my own rather lame allusion to this.

I wish I had been able to do more with it, but my brain was not able to come up with a plot! lol

I and emmithar are writing a multi-chapter fic though where the hats are mentioned again, but it is not clear when this fic will ever be finished lol.
