Cho had placed a Warming charm on the pizza when Kevin owled back about coming over. She heard a knock at the door while she was in the process of tidying up the table which was covered with different stacks of homework and research projects. She decided the couch would be fine for eating pizza.
She opened the door and invited him inside. “Hi, Kevin. Thanks for coming over.”
She brought the bag closer and looked inside the Honeyduke’s bag. “Chocolate!” She was happy she had saved room for something sweet. She smiled in appreciation, “Thanks, Kevin. This is just what I need right now.” She unwrapped a bar of chocolate and began nibbling the corner, “This is a nice way to relax after a long week.”
"A lot of people needed some this weekend, believe me." he answered, biting his lower lip. "Argh, give me a Sugarquill, please?" he asked finally giving in. "But not Honey-Lemon."
"It's not going to be easy for anyone, is it?" She reached over and squeezed his hand. "Are you holding up okay?" They had never talked about it but she knew he would understand how she was feeling, having also been through it himself.
She smiled when he asked for one of the sweets. She quickly found a cherry Sugarquill and passed it to him. "No honey, I remember."
She smiled ruefully, "It might be the opposite for me, and that's what has me out of sorts." She broke off a piece of chocolate before continuing. "I've been avoiding thinking about it for a year now but it feels like it's time to face a few things."
She leaned back, content to enjoy some chocolate and a friend's company for now. Saturday and Sunday would come some enough.
"It's not the past that I need to face, it's my future." he told her with a sigh. "Right now I'm on the moving on phase." But of course, his greatest challenge would be the anniversary of his father's death.
"I'm glad you're focused on moving forward, Kevin." She had noted his sigh though and added, "I hope you know I'm here if you ever need to talk to someone." She couldn't help but notice he seemed troubled. "I think this anniversary might be a milestone which makes many of us focus on looking towards the future. At least, I hope so."
"I agree. Many of us grieved and had absolutely no idea what they wanted to do. I think all of this took many by surprise. As if we couldn't grasp the reality that Voldemort is gone and that we can actually live." he told Cho softly, not sure it made sense at all. Well, in his mind it did.
"Now I can make plans and not be afraid to do so."
Cho listened as he talked about how difficult it had been for them to readjust after the war's end. "We are finally free to get on with our lives, yet I still feel ..." She looked over at him, "I know what you mean, I'm just still I'm working on it."
She took another drink of her beer and started picking at the lettering on the bottle. "What kind of plans are you making? What do you want out of life, Kevin?" It was reassuring to hear others talk about the future.
She opened the door and invited him inside. “Hi, Kevin. Thanks for coming over.”
