Some people just don't get it. I don't even talk about my major anymore.
I, like you, am determined to be happy in life. It's great that you found your calling and to hell with it, I'm still working on it. I, personally, am both envious and proud of you.
Haters...always someone whose snide little comments just throw your whole day off *sigh* And it's always the people who should now better too so that's what hurts the most...

The comments, honestly, did not screw up my whole day. The place I work at has little respect for people with college degrees since most of them, esp. the older workers, do not have them. I think part of it is coming from a different time, and part of it is jealousy for what they never did. The comments can just really get under my skin esp. since I can't open my mouth and fire back right now for fear of losing my job. C'est la vie.

I don't see why though - I've seen greybeards doing a first degree and it's easier than ever now to get higher education. Seriously, almost anyone could do it...

I want to major in history but I think it'll be too hard. (I was thinking that before your post) I'm going to at least start on a teaching degree in January, because like you said, it's mostly all you can get (that's what school councelers say anyway).

You can do a lot more than teach with a history degree, but it usually requires more training. The history BA is usually the foot in the door for law school, graduate school, or PhD programs. There are people who, like me, go into public history or museum studies or archival work. There's also chances to do humanitarian work with programs under the umbrella of the UN. Independent researchers is another option as are grant writing, or heck, regular novel writing. But teachers are usually in demand somehow, someway, so a lot of people with liberal arts degrees do end up teaching, at least for some amount of time.
