Edward watched Bella as she leaned into him, and he held her a little closer as he listened to her rambling. “Bella, calm down…” He sighed, letting go of her as she walked away towards the book. He wasn’t sure what she was up to; he couldn’t read her actions just like he couldn’t read her thoughts.
And then she opened the book, and Edward fisted one hand at his side, and raised his other hand to his face, covering his mouth and nose. He could smell it when she opened each book and ripped the pages out, walking away and giving them a good throw. As good of a throw as she could with crumpled paper.
He dropped his hand away from his mouth when she turned to look at him, asking if it was alright now. “It’s better.” He nodded, holding a hand out and beckoning her back over. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, Bella.”
What she could have said was, 'Oh, I don't know, you wouldn't have to monitor yourself all the time, would be able to live just that little bit easier, wouldn't have to put up with how selfish and incompetent I am...', but what she actually said was, "Well, if all goes as planned, you'll never have to find out." She was so thankful of her brain defect sometimes. Having him inside her brain just wasn't conducive to a healthy relationship.
"Did you find out anything about this place before you noticed the blood? I didn't have a chance to, I just woke up a moment ago before I saw your entry in that weird talking book," she explained anxiously, threading her fingers with his absentmindedly. "And what about everyone else? Where's Charlie and Rene and Jake..." She trailed off on his name, her voice quieting just a bit more. Something uncomfortable twisted low in her stomach, burrowing in deep.
Questions whizzed through her mind; questions like what about graduation? and fragments of thoughts like this is how it'll be when Edward turns me

Edward watched Bella as she began to ramble on and on once more. He wanted to stop her from talking, so she could calm down, but he decided tat maybe it was best to let her get it out, as much as he hated hearing that mongrels name. Squeezing her hand lightly, and finding it easier than usual and this he didn’t mind(though it unnerved him), he leaned forward to kiss her forehead. “Calm down, Bella.
“It’s alright. As long as they are not here, I am sure they are perfectly safe. It is you, I think, that we should be worrying about, Bella.” He put a hand on her arm gently, rubbing her arm softly. “Alice, Esme and the others will take care of whoever is not here, Bella. And I will take care of you, here.” He didn’t know how well that would work, though. He wasn’t nearly as fast, and he wasn’t nearly as strong. He didn’t know how he would achieve anything in his state

"No fair.." she protested weakly, her other hand coming up to rest against his chest. She glanced up at the sky quickly before her gaze drifted back towards Edward's face. The sky was a bright blue and judging from what she'd seen of the topography, she'd put them somewhere in the Caribbean: lots of sun, lots of green.
Wait.
Lots of sun?
She took a step back from Edward, hands on her hips. Her eyes narrowed in careful scrutiny. "Why aren't you sparkling? Aren't you supposed to sparkle? And you're not as cold! Do vampires run fevers?"
What was this place? Something on it is powerful enough to make Edward feel the effects...
